The name was Milton Hyland Erickson. He was an American psychiatrist and an expert in medical hypnosis as well as family therapy. Dr. Erickson was known for his work in psychotherapy. His methods were rather unconventional which earned him the attention of his peers and the whole medical community. He was in particular fond of using therapeutic metaphors and story as well as hypnosis in his treatments.
Dr. Erickson pioneered some methods in therapies such as his use of interventions that influenced the whole strategic therapy and family systems therapy’s standard practices. He also created the concept that the unconscious is highly separate from the conscious mind. When we say covert hypnosis we’re not talking of a secret military mission or standard Marine black ops. What we’re talking about is practicing very subtle and sometimes indirect form of hypnosis.
Yes, we need to walk quietly the lines of hypnosis and not let the subject know that he/she is being hypnotized, that the person they are talking to is not a hypnotist or should the subject know that there’s something out of the ordinary is happening in the lives right there and then. And that’s the concept of covert hypnosis, a phenomenon that is both very hard to achieve and very hard to believe. But it does exist.
This type of hypnosis requires a certain level of skill in communication particularly in the structure of language. When one is a covert hypnotist, he or she can be able to control another individual’s behavior through rapport. Stress and anxiety are a part of everyday life. This begins when people are stuck in traffic while reporting for work in the morning, the deadlines and pressures of things that need to be done in the office and again the ride home.
There are various drugs that can help combat stress and anxiety. Since these things are known to have serious side effects, people are strongly advised to only use this as a last resort.
